Kerstin paddles across the Mecklenburg Lake District in a red canoe. It slowly becomes clear what she is running away from, as the past catches up with her on the seemingly endless waters. ALASKA is an atmospheric film about searching and finding, fleeing and drifting away.

It's summer in Mecklenburg: a red canoe glides confidently, almost silently across the waters of the lake district. Kerstin sits in it, alone and packed with only the bare essentials, stoically avoiding any contact with other people. What drives her and apparently weighs her down is initially unclear. The familiarity and routine with which she navigates through the waterscape shows that Kerstin's relationship with the lake district is a special one. It is only when she meets Alima at a campsite, who is travelling somewhat unwillingly with a group of friends, that she slowly begins to open up. It becomes obvious that the story is not only centred around Kerstin when characters from her past appear.

Set against the enchanted backdrop of the Mecklenburg Lake District, Max Gleschinski's atmospheric feature film tells of searching and finding, of fleeing and drifting away and the tragedy of human relationships.
